Professional Development

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate offers professional development courses for teachers, school administrators, and museum educators. Held at TCMU-Greenville, our workshops provide practical and innovative ways for educators to help students flourish in and out of the classroom.

These events are free to teachers.

Spark children’s interest in science, especially life science, natural science, and paleontology. Develop children’s inquiry skills to help children think like scientists. Join us for a make-and-take workshop about dinosaurs. Create materials that you take back to your class and use right away, including: math centers, literacy activities, science experiments, and more. Spend time with our museum educators in our “Dino Train” exhibit, based on the popular Jim Henson program. Learn how play-based learning easily transfers back into the classroom.

Be the first to Be the Astronaut! This professional development will focus on the content of the exhibit and give cross-curriculum ideas to introduce to your students. Take your space pack back to your classroom for out-of-this-world learning.

Zot Artz for Special Needs: Registration Opens February 23, 2019
April 6, 2019 • 10:00a.m.— 12:00p.m.
Target Audience: Special Education Teachers: Preschool–12th Grade
TCMU is offering a unique opportunity to our community this spring by bringing a Zot Artz event to the museum. Zot Artz designs and makes adaptive art tools so that children with disabilities can create huge, amazing art pieces.  The Zot Artz tools and facilitated art events are truly inclusive, giving every student of every ability the chance to explore, imagine, and create. Teachers who attend this professional development will not only get an opportunity to see a Zot Artz event in action, but will also hear from inventor and professional artist facilitator, Dwayne Szot. Additionally, this professional development will take place on the museum’s Sensory Friendly Saturday in order to give teachers a chance to explore the inclusivity and learning opportunities within the museum.

Other professional development programs can be tailored to fit the needs of your program. For more information please contact:
