Educator Spotlight: Donna

Donna Tillman is a Program Guide at The Children's Museum of the Upstate. She graduated from Bob Jones University with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and Communication. She is a professional story teller and enjoys learning through storytelling.

She has taught many different programs at TCMU including Fantastic Fibers during the school year, art classes, music programs, and Invention Camp. This summer you can find her in the Art with an Artist and Theatre for All Summer Camps. She says her favorite part about working at The Children's Museum of the Upstate is, "Learning about interacting with kids and people in general." She also says, "The best way to learn is to do and this is a great place surrounded by education-minded people."

As a professional story teller, Donna uses words and images in order to stimulate the audience's imagination, to draw them in and became apart of the story's journey. Through this art of storytelling, she is able to uniquely engage students while teaching writing, history, and science. She is a member of Clemson Area Storytellers, and they often meet to collaborate and practice their stories.

Here at TCMU, she utilizes her storytelling abilities to capture the audience and keep the little ones engaged during Summer Camps and Public Programs. Donna says, "Our brains are hard-wired for stories, and they help children remember facts and information better than if taught in a more traditional way. "
